What You Deserve

What You Deserve

You deserve someone to uplift you, to love you fiercely, to encourage you. You deserve someone that redirects you when you start down a negative path in your thoughts, someone who will sew hope into your dark spaces rather than drag you deeper or add more negativity to the pile.

You deserve someone who puts you first before themselves, who asks you how your day was and is genuinely interested in your answer. You deserve someone who will give you perspective when you are trapped in your mind. You deserve someone who is patient with you, who works to understand your personality and your triggers, who knows what brings you joy and what hurts you.

You deserve someone who sees your heart before they see your body or appearance. You deserve someone who makes you feel safe enough to ugly cry, ugly laugh, be obnoxious, be dramatic, and to just be YOU. You deserve someone who reminds you of your worth every day, who works to make you feel secure in it always. You deserve someone who holds you accountable, who encourages the best in you. You deserve someone who will be honest with you when you could do better. But not to put you down, rather to propel you towards your fullest potential. You deserve someone who believes in you when you forget what there is to believe in.

You deserve someone who appreciates your talents, quirks, challenges, desires, and dreams. You deserve someone who makes an effort, who isn’t afraid to chase you down once in a while when you run to hide from the world. You deserve someone that understands when you need to be alone and when you need to be held. You deserve someone who can recognize your soul and protect it rather than destroy it.

But ultimately, my friend, you will only receive the kind of love that you are willing to give. And I hope that it is nothing less than this. I also hope that you don’t give this love to someone who will take advantage of it because then you will lose it. And it will be hard to find it in yourself again and again and again…

Protect the love you deserve from someone by protecting the love they deserve back from you.

Till next time,
